Modern Chinese Typography: An Effort to Preserve Traditional Culture
China has had a belated proliferation of typography despite being the country to first discover movable type. Due to the heavy difference in effort required to create a Chinese typeface compared to a latin typeface, there are relatively few Chinese fonts, but the modern global commercialization has now pushed for more exploration in Chinese typography, and it is now faced with the struggle of balancing conformity to latin typefaces for commercialization, with development and retention of its own identity from its rich calligraphic history.

The informational side of the poster follows a timeline format while emulating how Chinese text is traditionally read from top to bottom, right to left. Meanwhile, the expressive side illustrates components of Chinese type, both modern and traditional, together. The geometric shapes represent modern typography, while the brush strokes represent traditional calligraphy.
